Happy Book Blogger Appreciation Week! (PS: It’s still Monday in Hawai’i!) For those who don’t know:
Book Blogger Appreciation was started by Amy Riley of My Friend Amy in an effort to recognize the hard work and contribution of book bloggers to the promotion and preservation of a literate culture actively engaged in discussing books, authors, and a lifestyle of reading.
This is our second year participating, and we’re twice as active this time around. For our readers who aren’t in the book blogging community, every day of this week there will be a special topic to write about in appreciation of the multitudes of book bloggers out there on the Internet. So, while we will continue to post regularly about Hawaii’s books, authors and publishers, you will also see a lot of these “blogger” posts in the next few days. We hope it helps you find some new sites that might interest you (like the blog we talk about below!!).
Oh, and though we are humble folk, we are proud to have been nominated to the shortlist for Best Cultural Review Book Blog. Thank you to everybody who selected us and voted for us. It’s an honor to have made it this far and more importantly we always hope through our blog that you become interested in the great books and literature that Hawai’i has to offer the world.
Today’s topic is:
For those of you who participated in BBAW last year, what’s a great new book blog you’ve discovered since last year’s BBAW?
When we first entered into the Best Cultural Review Book Blog we were asked to review all of the entrants in that category for the long list. There was one blog that we really liked on first glance, and upon further reading:
This book blog is written by a Canadian currently living in Japan who goes by the name of Tanabata. It’s described as a general book blog with an emphasis on Japan and Japanese literature. Aside from being so aesthetically pleasing, right down to the origami social media icons, In Spring it is the Dawn hosts a Japanese Literature Book Group, Read Along, Reading Mini-Challenge and much more. We figure, not only is it a great blog for book bloggers to enjoy but due to the abundance of Japanese-American literature in Hawai’i and our cultural makeup, a lot of our Hawai’i readers would find it an invaluable resource to connect with many great books from Japanese authors.
So, go check ’em out! There’s a plethora of amazing book blogs out there, so I advise anyone into reading to see what BBAW is all about and discover your next favorite literary site (after ours, of course!) 😉
