  • Engraved at Lahainaluna by David ForbesArt Event with Tom Woods (Engraved at Lahainaluna) – Tom Woods, director of the Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives, will discuss the museum’s newest publication by historian and author David Forbes.   • Holophusicon, The Leverian MuseumArt Event with Adrienne L. Kaeppler (Holophusicon: The Leverian Museum) – Adrienne Kaeppler, curator of Oceanic Ethnology at the Smithsonian, will share her forty year journey to locate and document specimens from Hawaii and the Pacific that were displayed at The Leverian Museum in London in the late 1700s. In 1806 the contents were sold and scattered around the world.   • Celtic Harp and Story – Patrick Ball is one of the world’s premier Celtic harp players and a highly-acclaimed storyteller in the Celtic tradition. Ball, a native Californian, artistically blends the exquisite sound of the rare, wire-strung Celtic harp with his intriguing tales of Ireland. The 32-string Celtic harp is said to have a fabled capacity to soothe its listeners, to beguile them, and to lead them into the realms of the imagination. He has recorded nine instrumental and three spoken word albums, which have sold more than one-half million copies internationally.   • The Little Hawaiian Lilikoi CookbookLilikoi Tips – Gail Hercher, author of The Little Hawaiian Liliko’i Cookbook, shows how to make lilikoi bars and drinks.   • Stories of Hawaii and the World – Local storyteller and former HSPLS librarian Dave Del Rocco will present folktales from Hawaii and other places around the world such as Africa, Alaska, Italy, Laos, and the Philippines.   • Children’s Storytime – Join the book store for a special Storytime as they will be reading The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore by William Joyce: Morris loves words. He loves stories. He loves books. But every story has its ups and downs and Morris is having one of those days.   • Tasi's Gift - A Tale of SamoaAuthor Event with Tamara Montgomery (Tasi’s Gift) – Join the bookstore after the Merrie Monarch Parade for a keiki–friendly event with Tamara Montgomery! Tamara will read selections from her award winning children’s books, including the latest, Tasi’s Gift.   • Principles of Feng Shui in Your Garden – The Library will present a free one-hour lecture on applying the principles of feng shui in your garden to create positive energy in your home and life. Feng Shui author and expert Clear Englebert explains chi energy and shows how to attract and maximize its beneficial flow, stressing the importance of the approach to the home. Emphasis is placed on harmonizing the home with the surrounding landform. The examples are specific to Hawai‘i homes, and to the landscape, climate, and culture of the Islands, allowing a clear understanding of how to apply feng shui principles here.   • ʻĪlio hanu kanaka — Hound dog PAWS for Reading – The Hawaii Canines for Independence, a non-profit organization that provides people with physical disabilities specially-trained dogs to assist them in living more independent lives, will present the Reading Educational Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) program which is said to improve children’s reading and communication skills. Reading to a Therapy Dog can help build a keiki’s reading confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and is a lot of fun. Parents should contact the Library to sign up their children for 15-minute reading sessions. Pre-registration is required.   • The Legend of Laieikawai by Dietrich VarezPrint and Book Signing by Dietrich Varez – Celebrate the state’s most popular hula festival by meeting VAC’s signature artist. Dietrich Varez will be on hand signing his extensive collection of over 250 Hawaiiana prints and books he has written or illustrated. Event is free; park entrance fees apply.   • Shingles, Herpes Zoster, and Zoster; What is the Difference? – Kit Uyeda, public health educator of the Department of Health’s Immunization Branch, will conduct an informational presentation about shingles: the causes and symptoms, transmission, medical treatment, self-care, complications of the virus, and prevention.  Uyeda will also explain the medical terminology associated with this disease: shingles, herpes zoster, and zoster.  This one-hour program is for seniors, ages 55 and older.
