It’s time…it’s time…it’s Book End Time!  Welcome to this week’s Book End, highlighting the weekend’s literary and library events here in Hawaii.

I have to admit, it’s been another slow week!  This coming week, however, should provide a nice change of pace.  We may have up to three book reviews coming out and hopefully one book list I’ve been trying to work on since late January.  So, be sure to keep up with us on Twitter, Facebook, and RSS feeds for the latest information on Hawaii’s books!

K-Drama for your mama

Local Korean soap opera fans rejoice!  More than 20 of the latest K-Drama DVDs were donated to Pearl City Public Library on Thursday (Feb. 10) morning in a brief ceremony.

Palama Supermarkets, through a partnership with the Korean Library Foundation, donated copies of these highly-requested K- Drama DVDs to the Library.  Daniel Lim, President of Palama Supermarkets, presented the generous donation of DVDs and said, “This was an opportunity for Palama Supermarkets to give back to the community.”  Palama Supermarkets, one of the largest Korean-owned businesses in Hawaii with three locations on Oahu, selected Pearl City Public Library to receive the DVDs because of the close proximity to its recently-opened Waimalu store.

“There is a huge demand for these K-Drama DVDs, and this donation will be heavily-used and enjoyed by not only the Pearl City Public Library patrons, but also our library patrons statewide,” said Les Yanagi, Acting Branch Manager of Pearl City Public Library.  “We would also like to thank Palama Supermarkets for their ongoing partnership with the Korean Library Foundation in bringing Korean language materials to Hawaii for our library system, and in particular to the McCully-Moiliili and Salt Lake-Moanalua Libraries.”

The DVD titles include: “Boys Over Flowers (Vol. 1),” “Boys Over Flowers (Vol. 2),” Brilliant Legacy,” Celebrity Sweetheart,” City Hall,” “Hwang Jini,” “I Love You,” “Inside the White Tower,” “My Destiny,” “Oasis.”  In addition, “One Fine Day,” “Piano,” “Tamra Island,” “The Grand Chef (Vol. 1),” “The Grand Chef (Vol. 2),” “The King and I (Vol. 1),” “The King and I (Vol. 2),” “The King and I (Vol. 3),” “200 Pounds,” “Tree of Heaven,” and “You’re Beautiful.”

You can borrow these and other DVDs with a valid library card for just a dollar for seven days at either the Library or online at www.librarieshawaii.org.

Bottoms Up!

Recently, Watermark Publishing announced one of their next books coming out, titled The Cocktail Handbook: Cool Drinks from Hawaii’s Hottest Bartenders by Jesse Greenleaf and Amie Fujiwara.  Knowing Watermark, this book looks to have a great design, beautiful photography and interesting content and tidbits.  It’s scheduled to come out sometime in February, but for now you can check out some samples from the book and find more information on the official Facebook page.
