It’s time…it’s time…it’s Book End Time! Welcome to this week’s Book End, highlighting the week’s literary and library events here in Hawaii.

A Giant Sleeps

Probably the biggest literary news this past week has to do with the nationwide closing of Borders.  399 stores including six still left in Hawaii will be closing its doors within the next few months.  Nearly 11,000 employees will be losing a job.  It will be sad to have such big gaping holes at Ward Center, Windward Mall, and Pearlridge.  I might expound a little more on this in a future post, but for now, here are a few related links from local sources you can use to catch up on this news:

Coffee and Books

Watermark Publishing continues their book giveaways in conjunction with the Biting Commentary with John Heckathorn TV show (airing on KGMB9 this Sunday, July 24 at 2:30 p.m.).  The topic for this episode is coffee, and to raise excitement, they are giving away a free copy of The Hawai‘i Coffee Book to one lucky winner.  All you have to do is guess how many beans you think are in one pound of coffee.  Find out more about this contest, the show, and COFFEE! on Watermark’s blog.

In addition to the blog contest, Watermark Publishing are offering 30% off all of their non-sale titles.  Visit their online store and use the coupon code BITEBOOKS to receive the discount.  How can you lose?!
