It’s time…it’s time…it’s Book End Time! Welcome to this week’s Book End, highlighting the week’s literary and library events here in Hawaii.

Friday, June 17
- 64th Annual Friends of the Library of Hawaii Book Sale – The 64th Annual Book Sale, a.k.a. the McKinley Book Sale takes place from June 17 – 26, 2011. On Friday is the Members’ Preview Night for Friends members only. You can come and join the Friends, starting at 3:00 P.M. This is by far the largest used book sale in the State and has become a well-attended and traditional event by and for Hawai‘i residents and mainland visitors alike. McKinley High School Cafeteria (1039 S. King Street – entrance on Pensacola Street between King St. & Kapiolani Blvd.); 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. For more information click here.
- It’s Book Time With Ronald McDonald – Ronald McDonald will offer a fun-filled interactive performance featuring a creative blend of music, magic and games to reinforce the idea that reading is fun. Salt Lake-Moanalua Public Library (3225 Salt Lake Blvd.; Ph. 831-6831); starts at 10:30 A.M.
- Kid’s Craft – If you’re on the Big Island, come down to the library for Kid’s Craft, a part of the 2011 Summer Reading Program. Today, keiki will be making a pin and bead bracelet. This program is suitable for ages 6 and up. Kealakekua Public Library (Mamalahoa Highway) ; 2:30 P.M.

- 64th Annual Friends of the Library of Hawaii Book Sale – The 64th Annual Book Sale, a.k.a. the McKinley Book Sale takes place from June 17 – 26, 2011. The sale will be open to the general public from June 18 – 26th. - Friends of the Libraries, Kona – Book Sale: Friends of the Libraries, Kona will hold a book sale. Come support the Kona Libraries and find cheap books! Large selection of Hawaiiana and children’s books. Kailua-Kona Public Library lanai; 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
- Friends of the Waialua Public Library – The Friends hold a book sale at the library every 3rd Saturday of the month! There is also a bake sale at the book sale. - Aloha KiKi Book Signing – Big Island peeps! Come to this book signing event with author Angel M. Hiatt and illustrator Scott Bosshardt of the children’s book Aloha KiKi [read our review here]. 10% of the proceeds from the book will be donated to the Hawaii Island Humane Society for the ongoing rescue and care of animals on the Hawaiian Islands. - The Art of Bookbinding – Bookbinder Ken Cannon will provide a brief look at binding history. This program will cover the principles of hand-binding and an overview of papers. The audience will also be introduced to the several types of bindings, boards and cover materials in use today and see samples of each one. The program will conclude with a discussion on the greening of the book business and its effects on the bookbinding industry today. Program is recommended for ages 12 and older. - Jazz Performance – Jazz Performance and lecture by Olga Salvatore with Greg Shirley on guitar. Kealakekua Public Library on Mamalahoa Highway; 11:00 A.M.
- Meet Ben Wong of Let’s Go Fishing! – Go to the book store to meet local author, angler, and host of the popular TV show Let’s Go Fishing! - Origami Folding Workshop – Scott Macri of the Hawaii Origami Club will conduct a workshop designed for all origami enthusiasts. Macri will demonstrate how to make a variety of origami models and there will be a question-and-answer session. Paper will be provided and participants can take home their origami creations. - Feng Shui for Interiors – Feng Shui for Hawai’i author Clear Englebert will offer two feng shui classes tailored to Hawaii’s home styles and landscapes: Feng Shui for Interiors on Saturday, June 18, and Feng Shui for Exteriors on Sunday, June 19. Cost is $25 per class. Classes will be held each day from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. in the Private Function Room in the Executive Center, Lobby Level, next to Hukilau Restaurant. - A Tribute to Slack Key w/ John Keawe – His performance will offer a tribute to the slack key style, featuring selections from the work of Raymond Kane, Leonard Quan, and many others, as well as numerous compositions of his own.
