Sing Along With “Uncle Wayne” Watkins & Jason Pfahl – Join musician “Uncle Wayne” Watkins and drummer Jason Pfahl for an energetic and always entertaining sing along. Just right for toddlers and preschoolers, this 45-minute program will have youngsters laughing, singing, dancing, and moving to music that inspires and entertains. - The Amazing Magical Bubble Show – Admission is free. The Aloha Clowns will offer a highly-interactive and educational experience for children of all ages. Learn how to hold a bubble in your hand, bounce a bubble like a volleyball, make a square bubble, and watch in amazement as the Aloha Clowns create a giant bubble, big enough to put someone inside! - 65th Annual Friends of the Library of Hawaii (FLH) Book Sale – THE book sale of the summer is back with over 150,000 new and used books for sale. Antonio Rocha’s “Jungle Tales” – Antonio Rocha is an internationally-acclaimed and award-winning storyteller, mime, and actor from Brazil. Admission is free. Rocha’s unique solo performances of stories and mime have been presented from Singapore to Hawaii and in many places in between including 14 countries on six continents. His repertoire of animal tales with an ecological theme and a myriad of fantastic sound effects will not only entertain but also educate. Experience Rocha’s “Jungle Tales,” a wild trip into the jungles of Africa and Brazil. This 45-minute performance is recommended for ages 5 and older. 65th Annual Friends of the Library of Hawaii (FLH) Book Sale – THE book sale of the summer is back with over 150,000 new and used books for sale. Remember, on this Saturday EVERYTHING is 50% OFF! The booksale helps support FLH which provides funding for Hawai‘i’s 50 public libraries with special programs. Mezzo-Soprano Laurie Rubin – Rubin will perform nine musical pieces, a combination of opera arias, art songs, and Broadway show tunes. Laurie is the associate artistic director of Ohana Arts, a performing arts festival and school in Honolulu. She was trained in Oberlin and Yale and is a performer with an international reputation. Laurie has performed in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Wigmore Hall, a well-known chamber music theater in London. - Badenyaa, “Afro-Cuban, Haitian and Central African Drum and Dance” – Badenyaa is a professional performing arts ensemble of multi-racial artists, dancers, and musicians with experience in numerous dance companies throughout Hawaii and the U.S. mainland. The Slack Key Artistry of Jeff Peterson – Peterson, who is recognized as one of Hawaii’s most versatile musicians, is at the heart of today’s Hawaiian music scene. Peterson and other island artists were featured on “Slack Key Guitar, Volume 2”, a compilation album that won the first ever Grammy Award for best Hawaiian recording, at the 47th Annual Grammy Awards in 2005. Peterson is also featured on the recording that won the 2010 Grammy Award in the Hawaiian music category. His latest solo CD, “Maui On My Mind,” won the 2010 Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Best Slack Key Album and received a Grammy nomination in 2011. Kailua Public Library (239 Kuulei Rd.); 2:00 P.M. Kirk Lee Aeder (Child of the Storm) book signing – Back from a West Coast book tour, Waikoloa author and surf photographer Kirk Lee Aeder will sign and talk story about his new book Child of the Storm. This will be Aeder’s first book signing on the Big Island. Child of the Storm, How an Angry Young Man Formed a Bond with the Sea and Changed Our Lives Forever, chronicles the tempestuous life of 1970’s California competitive surfer Chris O’Rourke, who died of cancer at the age of 22. His lifelong friend, Aeder, was able to capture O’Rourke’s meteoric surf career on camera as he rose to world class status; and as he fought illness with ferocity. A Summer Concert: The Sandra Wong String Studio – Students from The Sandra Wong String Studio will present a concert featuring songs inspired by literature or related to the summer reading program themes. Hear musical selections from the “Sound of Music,” “Harry Potter,” “Twilight,” Disney’s “Aladdin,” and many other movies. There will be special appearances by alumni of the Studio.
