- Meet Maui Author Linda McCullough Decker – Decker will discuss her new book Edward Bailey of Maui: Teacher & Naturalist, Engineer & Artist, which has been nominated for a 2012 Hawaii Book Publishers Association”s Ka Palapala Po’okela Award in the “Excellence in Nonfiction Books” category. She will also talk about the processes of researching and writing a book, the issues and new insights that a biography of an important local figure can bring into focus, and share some examples of Bailey’s paintings. - Friends, Books, Music: THE SALE – The third annual book sale from the Friends of the Library of Hawaii. The sale will cover Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Day Weekend and supports all 50 of Hawaii’s State Public Libraries. There will be over 30,000 records, and thousands of books, CDs, DVDs, VHS, magazines and more. - Legal and Accounting Matters for Small Businesses – Attorney Nolan K. Yogi and Business Owner Ted Ketcham will present this informational seminar for startups and for ongoing businesses. Yogi will discuss “How to Protect Your Business and Your Assets from Lawsuits.” Topics will include: Business Entities, Documentation, Contracts, and Employee Issues. In addition to being a successful business owner, Ketcham will discuss “Tax and Accounting Issues for Small Businesses.” Topics will include: Money and Funding for your Business, Tax Tips and Trips, Starting Right with Record Keeping, and QuickBooks Tips and Tricks. - Special Children’s Storytime – Come to the book store every Saturday for a fun keiki story time reading. This week they will be reading Cowboy Camp by Tammi Sauer. - Feng Shui book event w/ Clear Englebert – Feng shui expert Clear Englebert explains chi energy and how to attract and maximize its beneficial flow, stressing the importance of the approach to the home. Learn why some energy from neighboring structures is considered negative and how to deflect it. Emphasis is placed on harmonizing the home with the surrounding landform. Examples are specific to Hawai‘i homes, and to the landscape, climate, and culture of the Islands, allowing a clear understanding of how to apply feng shui principles here. - Tolkien Society — Smaug the Golden – Dragons in Middle Earth — They will be looking at some of the history behind Tolkien’s Smaug the Golden, both within and outside Tolkien’s writings, including reading brief passages from The Hobbit. - Family Storytime & Craft – Children ages 4 through 8, accompanied by a parent or caregiver, are invited to listen to stories read by members of the Leeward Community College TRIO Upward Bound Program. Among the stories to be read include: “The Bully Blockers Club” by Teresa Bateman, “The Gruffalo” by Julia Donaldson, and “I Am Too Absolutely Small for School (A Charlie and Lola story)” by Lauren Child.
