It’s time…it’s time…it’s Book End Time!  Welcome to this week’s Book End, highlighting the weekend’s literary and library events here in Hawaii.

This Saturday Hawaii Book Blog will be volunteering our time for First Book-Oahu at the 1st Annual Hawaiian Style Fun Fair!  This is a FREE event sponsored by Hawai`i Children’s Trust Fund in collaboration with Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii and the CAPP Council.  It will be held at the Windward YMCA from 11am – 5pm.  Food, games, and live music will all be a part of this new event.  Come on down and say “hi” to us!

University of Hawai’i Press released their latest Hawaii & the Pacific 2011 catalog.  Check it out here.

• 05:30pm – Author Signing Event at Barnes & Noble Ala Moana.  Meet author Barry Spanier, Maui resident and well known in the US windsurfing industry. • 09:00am – Barnes & Noble Bookfair benefitting the Mission Houses Museum.  Stop by their table to learn more about the museum and their up-coming Story-a-thon event as you support them with your Barnes & Noble purchases.  Costumed characters will read at 10:00 am, 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm at the front of the store.  More info
• 10:00am – BOOK SALE at Hawaii Kai Public Library!  From 10am – 3pm you can purchase inexpensive books, cds, audio books, dvds, vhs and more.  Call 397-5833 for more information.
• 10:00am – Bill’s Bookmobile is open every first Saturday of the month, which means…it’s open on Saturday!  The fall specials for today are Halloween, Mystery, Fiction, and Children’s Books.  More info

• 10:30am – Special Edward Gorey Children’s Story Time at the Hawaii State Library’s Edna Allyn Room For Children to celebrate the “Musings of Mystery and Alphabets of Agony: The Work of Edward Gorey,”exhibition at the University of Hawai’i Art Gallery. • 01:00pm – Feng Shui with Clear Engelbert at Kona Stories book store in Kailua-Kona (Big Island).  Class 3 –  Feng Shui for Exteriors: Chi Flow, Poison Arrows, & Empowered Positions. Positioning a home correctly in the landscape.  The cost is $25 for each three-hour class, and $5 off if one of Clears’ books is purchased at the event. • 01:00pm – SAT 101 Test Strategies Informational Seminar at Kailua Public Library.  A national education company will conduct a 90-minute seminar that is designed for prospective college applicants who are interested in increasing their scores on the SAT exams. • 02:00pm – Author Event with John P. Lockwood and Richard W. Hazlett — Volcanoes: Global Perspectives at Basically Books in Hilo, HI (Big Island).  It will be a fun and informative author event with these two professors presenting their new book.  More info
