Hawaii Kai Library Book Sale – The Friends of the Hawaii Kai Library are having our semi-annual book sale. Browse at your leisure through stacks of mysteries, mountains of maps, divine DVDs, collector’s items, scores of sheet music, yummy cookbooks, and much, much more. Many items are priced at JUST 50 cents! Dealers are welcome. Get lucky with the raffle! Suggested donation $5 per entry. 6 tickets for $25; 13 tickets for $50. Get tickets at the sale. - Friends of the Waialua Public Library Book Sale – Friends of the Waialua Public Library holds a book sale at the library every 3rd Saturday of the month! There is also a bake sale at the book sale. - Friends of the Library Kona (FOLK) Book Sale – Special date due to Iron Man Triathlon on the 13th. F.O.L.K. Members receive 20% off Lanai Sales. 50th Anniversary Celebration: Aina Haina Library – The Library will celebrate its 50th Anniversary by offering special programs and events, free and open to the public. There will be opening remarks and a Hawaiian blessing to open, refreshments served, a performance by the Niu Valley Middle School Band (10:30a), performance by Balloon Artist Dwain Williams (11:15a); Face Painting (noon); performance by Aina Haina School Chorus (1pm); and “Make Your Own Robot” w/ Kalani High Robotics Team (2pm, registration required). In the summer of 2011, the Library became the first Oahu library in the Hawaii State Public Library System to install a photovoltaic system on its rooftop as a cost-saving measure to reduce rising energy costs. Frances Kakugawa Book Signing – Author Frances Kakugawa will be in Hawaii to promote the release of Wordsworth the Poet‘s newest adventure, Wordsworth! Stop the Bulldozer! - Princess Ka’iulani Keiki Festival – Honoring the Culture, Cuisine and Music of Ni’ihau. All of the authors from the Kauai Children’s Authors Guild will be on-hand at the Princess Ka’iulani eiki Festival to celebrate literacy and talk story

- Saturday Matinee: Scooby Doo’s Original Mysteries – Join Scooby Doo, the lovable Great Dane, along with teenagers Shaggy, Freddy, Daphne, and Velma as they solve mysteries investigating haunted castles, ghost towns, and alleged otherworldly beings in these mildly-scary cartoons, just in time for Halloween! The movie is suitable for ages 5 and older; all children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Free popcorn and bottled water will be provided by the Kay A. Edwards Memorial Fund. - CLOWN-gregation – David and Patricia Suhs are professional clown pantomimes who have performed and taught clowning for over thirty-five years in five different countries. They will put on a program of clowning skills, pantomime games and for three lucky individuals, the opportunity to be made up as real clowns! This 30-minute program is suitable for all ages. Mask Making – Yukie Shiroma will conduct a workshop on creating a three-dimensional mask. This two-hour program is limited to only twenty (20) participants per location and is suitable for ages 8 and older. Supplies will be provided. Contact a hosting library to register. Yukie has studied Okinawan classical dance and theatre for over thirty years. As the Co-Artistic Director of Monkey Waterfall, Yukie has performed and taught dance and mask work nationally and internationally for over twenty years and directs the company’s productions. Honolulu Town: The Wholesome Town – Laura Ruby & Ross Stephenson will present the last segment of their series on Honolulu Town, a book they have recently published. Laura and Ross will discuss the recreational and charitable aspects of community life in Old Honolulu. Laura Ruby is the editor of Mo‘ili‘ili – The Life of a Community. Ross Stephenson is a historian with the State Historic Preservation Division of the Department of Land & Natural Resources. Their program is sponsored by the Hawai‘i Council for the Humanities. - Author Event with Patrick Vinton Kirch – In A Shark Going Inland Is My Chief archaeologist Patrick Vinton Kirch brings to bear more than four decades of research, along with the findings of colleagues and students, to trace the fascinating history of Hawaiian culture from the time of the first Polynesian arrival about one thousand years ago. A Tribute to Slack Key – Keawe, a multiple Na Hoku Hanohano and Hawaii Music Awards recipient and a contributing artist on Hawaii’s first Grammy winner, “Slack Key Guitar Volume 2” (2005), will offer a tribute to the slack-key style, in celebration of Teen Read Week 2012. He will perform selections from the music of Raymond Kane, Leonard Quan, and others, in addition to presenting his original compositions. This program is suitable for all ages.
