Thanks again to everybody for reading Hawaii Book Blog. We are now all in with our Hawaii Public Library Challenge, touring all of Oahu’s public libraries and getting Hawaii book recommendations from each one. In the meantime, we have a couple more book reviews nearly finished as well as a few feature posts coming soon. Stay tuned, as we have lots to share with everyone.
One thing we’d like to do more frequently is provide a quick list of the literary related happenings going on and we will start doing that weekly with our new “Book End” report. There are quite a few book and library events to look forward to this Saturday (it’s not too hard to find at least one book signing every weekend)! If you have some free time, it’s always nice to help support our local authors, publishers, books and fundraising efforts by attending one (or more) of these interesting events:
Saturday, September 12
- 9am: Friends of the Library, Kona (FOLK) will be hosting a book sale for the benefit of Kona libraries. From 9am – 1pm, more than 8,000 books, CD’s and DVD’s will be available for purchase. Source
- 11am: Aiea Public Library will also be hosting a book sale until 4pm to help support the library. Source
- 11am: The Hawaii Kai Public Library will be hosting a lecture, “Fly Me To The Moon” where you will get the chance to learn more about the lunar calendar, different ways of viewing the moon, various missions to the moon and more. Source
- 12pm: Artist Kim Taylor Reece will be at the NEX Navy Exchange – The Mall in Pearl Harbor, promoting his books: Hula I Ka La & Hula Kahiko Collection. Source
- 1pm: Author Marianne Tanabe will be at Barnes & Noble Kahala signing copies of her book, Before the Silver Cord is Severed (Tate Publishing, 2009). Source

We also encourage you to attend the Hawaii Woman Expo (Friday, Sep. 11 to Sunday, Sep. 13) as there will be a number of authors from Watermark Publishing present to sign books and share their expertise with you in various demonstrations. A listing of author/book related events from Watermark is available here.
