It’s time…it’s time…it’s Book End Time!  Welcome to this week’s Book End, highlighting the weekend’s literary and library events here in Hawaii.

Hawaii wins 20,000 books

First, some really awesome news:  Hawaii wins!  Hawaii recently placed in the Top 5 (4th overall) of the First Book and Cheerios Challenge which means our keiki in need will receive 1/5 of the 100,000 book giveaway.  Thanks to everyone who helped take Hawaii over the hump on the weekend!  For more information check out this article by our very own Honolulu Books Examiner:  “Hawaii wins 20,000 new books in the First Book Cheerios Trivia Contest”

There are two ways you can get published in Bamboo Ridge’s 100th issue: You can submit 100 lines of poetry or prose by December 31st OR you can enter their short-short story contest.  You can submit a 100 word entry once per month, until December 31st. For more details visit bambooridge.com

Hula Moose in the Library

On our Facebook page, we got the following message from local author Christine Taylor Sprowl Tetak:

Aloha Hawaii Book Followers,
My book Legend of the Hula Moose is now on the State of Hawaii’s Library purchase list. It was reviewed by the Children’s Librarian of the State of Hawaii! Yeah! Also, the book is available to purchase at five locations around Hawaii Island. I tried to get it into Hilo Hattie, but they have an exclusive deal with a publisher, so Hula Moose is flying solo and doing well in spite of the politics of distribution. The point is to get the book in the hands of children to read! Mahalo! Christine

So look out for her book, Legend of the Hula Moose in Big Island stores and soon in your local library!
