It’s summer time and that means one of our favorite book events of the year! The Friends of the Library of Hawaii Annual Book sale is one of the oldest and largest used book sales in the United States and a dream come true for literary lovers and collectors. With nine straight days of books in all categories there’s a lot of wonderful things to be found if you’re patient enough to look.
This year the event is co-sponsored by the Hawaii State Federal Credit Union, so there’s an extra “preview” day for credit union members, compared to years past (so bummed we’re not members :p). Every year the sale gets better and better. This year they’ve been very proactive and have already put up a map of where the books are located during the sale (check it out here and here). Another new thing, they’ve organized the art and print-work into a catalog that you can peruse ahead of time (see here). I wish they would do this with the rare books and collectibles.
Don’t miss this great opportunity for some deals and remember, all monies go to our public libraries so it’s all for a great cause. Get those canvas bags and luggage carriers ready folks… see you there!
