A few weeks ago we heard about yet another unfortunate casualty of the book publishing industry. Readers like ourselves not only suffered with the loss of a number of bookstores in the area when Borders began closing down nationwide, but a number of authors felt the sting of loss due to distribution contracts that left them out in the cold when this happened.
One local author who experienced this setback was Maui’s Judi Riley, who is an author and illustrator of the Tiki Tales and Cheeky Tales series of children’s books.
When Borders declared bankruptcy earlier this year, Judi lost her entire inventory of When I am Quiet on Maui books. She never received payment for the books, as the sale with Borders happened the month prior to their bankruptcy.
In an effort to raise funds for a reprint of When I am Quiet on Maui, she is selling cases of one of her other kids books, When I am Quiet on Oahu, for over 50% off: A case of 40 books for $200 (only $5/book). Each book will also be autographed and identified with an “autographed copy” sticker on the front cover.
This deal is great for anyone needing a supply of these books at excellent prices, as well as schools and organizations that might want to fundraise by selling the books.
