Last week, Kumu Kahua Theatre started their run of Moa a Mōʻī (“Chicken Into King”) based on the play by Jean Charlot. Moa a Mōʻī is Charlot’s retelling of the legends of ‘Umi, a commoner who became a chief.
Three Plays of Ancient Hawaii was published by University of Hawaii Press back in 1963. But you can read a PDF version of it here including the illustrations.
It’s a fairly quick read, and an interesting adaptation.
