Check out the treasures I’ve received in the mail the last few weeks! The last piece I finally pulled from my mailbox today and in gratitude I wanted to post about it and thank the giveaway host.
Back during Book Blogger Appreciation Week (BBAW), a blogger who goes by the name of Maischeph hosted a special George R.R. Martin (GRRM) giveaway. In honor of BBAW she gave entrants who had a book-reviewing blog an extra entry in the contest. I happened to be lucky enough to win this giveaway! It was perfect timing, too, because I’ve recently been re-reading GRRM’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” in anticipation of the HBO show. Well, re-reading and finishing up the series, so no spoilers! 🙂
Anyway, the Giveaway included the following (quoted from Maischeph’s site):
A) A brand new paperback copy of Legends, an anthology edited by Robert Silverberg that includes stories by Stephen King, Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, Anne McCaffrey, Orson Scott Card, Terry and Lyn Pratchett, Raymond E. Feist, Tad Williams, Ursula K. Le Guin and, most importantly (in this instance), George R.R. Martin. The short story by GRRM is “The Hedge Knight,” a prequel story that occurs roughly 90 years before A Song of Ice and Fire.
B) A brand spankin’ new copy of the graphic novel of “The Hedge Knight,” adapted by Ben Avery (Writer) and Mark Miller (Illustrator), re-released by Marvel in 2007. The illustrations are wonderful, and I love the story. I can’t speak for how well it was/wasn’t adapted from the written version, because I actually haven’t read that (oh look, I’m blushing). If I find the story so enjoyable in this format, I can only imagine how awesome it is in the original format!
C) Last but not least, there will be a Mystery Prize that is Not A Book included in this prize package. That’s right, all three items will be given away to one lucky winner!
Pretty awesome giveaway, huh? The mystery prize, as you can see in my photo above was a 2011 “A Song of Ice and Fire” illustrated calendar, depicting the numerous castles that litter GRRM’s fantasy world.
I want to give a big MAHALO to Maischeph for hosting this great giveaway. You can visit her site here:
She does fresh (no spoilers!) reviews of fantasy books, but she also will cover “the occasional non-fantasy book, movie adaptation of a book, or comic book review thrown in.” If you like fantasy, you should check it out. In her most recent post she has a post and a poll up asking if you prefer Zombies or Unicorns. Let her know what you think!
