One of our missions here at Hawaii Book Blog is to help promote local literacy events such as book fairs, library programs and book signings. We enjoy going to these and want to ensure that as many people out there know when and where these events are taking place.
This past Saturday, November 20th, there were more book signings and major literary happenings than we’ve seen in a long time. We tried our best to make a schedule and attend as many of these events as possible and thought we’d sum up our exploits for you with a photo gallery!
Book Events 11/20/10
We met with author Janet Spurr while browsing the books at the Daughters of Hawaii Book Day sale.
Janet started talking to me about the Boston Red Sox because she noticed my New York Yankees t-shirt and hat. We got into it about visiting Boston and how awesome it was for her to attend an Opening Day game at Fenway Park. Get this, Neil Diamond was there to sing "Sweet Caroline" live during the middle of the 8th inning...what a treat!
Janet's a really friendly and funny lady. We picked up her book Beach Chair Diaries which is subtitled "Summer Tales from Maine to Maui," and look forward to reading and reviewing it in the future.
Janet will actually have a few more book signings in Hawaii the next couple of weeks:
Sat. Nov 27 from 11am-4pm at Maui Ocean Center
Sun. Nov 28 from 9am-2pm at Grand Wailea
Sat. Dec 4 from 12-1pm at Borders, Ward Centre
Sat. Dec 4 from 2:30-3:30pm at Borders in Waikele
Sun. Dec 5 from 12:30-1:30pm at Barnes & Noble Ala Moana
We hope this inspires you to attend a literary event in the future to help support our local authors, illustrators and publishers!
To keep up to date with literary events, follow us on Twitter and Facebook, read our Book End posts every Friday morning highlighting the weekend’s literary/library events, and consistently check out our Event Calendar where we try to post all the events happening every day.
