The Descendants rode a wave of success during film’s awards season, garnering a number of Best Picture and Best Actor awards for the movie and George Clooney respectively. This Tuesday, March 13 marks the release of the critically acclaimed film on Blu-Ray and DVD.
In celebration of this event, and in honor of the woman to whom all of this originates, a group on Goodreads is hosting a special discussion with author Kaui Hart Hemmings on Tuesday, March 13. To participate, join the “The Descendants — Ask Kaui Hart Hemmings!” discussion group—you do need to be a Goodreads member. If you’re not already a member of Goodreads, and you’re reading this blog post (and I assume, at least passingly like to read), then you should definitely join (it’s free)*. I love it for keeping track of all the books/pages I read (and when!).

You don’t even have to wait until March 13 to ask a question. If you’ve thought of something brilliantly insightful to query Ms. Hemmings on and are afraid you might forget, you can already begin posting your questions on the group’s discussion board. Kaui won’t answer them until the 13th, but it’s a great way to see what kinds of questions are being asked to help you think of something. So far, there are only a few questions posted, so if you act now you may have a good chance at getting your question answered!

Just for fun, an official The Descendants book to film discussion guide has been circulating around the Web to promote the upcoming release of the film on Blu-ray and DVD. I’ve reposted it here for the benefit of those who haven’t seen it yet. If you’ve both read the book and seen the film, it’s a great discussion piece to bring up among your friends, family, or book/movie groups.
